Regain your U.S. permanent residency and return home.
The SB-1 Returning Resident Visa is designed for lawful permanent residents (green card holders) who have been outside the United States for an extended period and failed to maintain continuous residence. If a green card holder stays outside the U.S. for more than one year (or beyond the validity of a re-entry permit), they may be considered to have abandoned their permanent residency.
The SB-1 visa allows them to apply for permission to return to the U.S. without losing their green card status, provided they can prove their prolonged absence was due to circumstances beyond their control and that they intend to resume permanent residence in the United States.
